Tac-2 joystick

13th November. By tobiasniva. Posted in Blog, Misc.

After borrowing an old Tac2-joystick from a friend, for some retro gaming on my Raspberry Pi…I decided to try and model it in Blender.

SD-card reader for the Amiga

27th May. By tobiasniva. Posted in Blog, Misc.

Helped out a friend with some case design suggestions for his project of building an sd-card reader for the Amiga. Modelled in Blender, which he then brought into Design Spark to somewhat refine and finalize for 3d-print. Here’s a link to the project – where you’ll find code, technical drawings and things related to the …read more

Photogrammetry – part 3

25th March. By tobiasniva. Posted in Blog.

Apart from Meshroom I’ve started using the app display.land which I found a couple of days ago. It does not give you the minute control that the former one provides, but the ease of use is remarkable: Just get out, film an object/environment from various angles for a while…upload it, and let their machines up …read more

Photogrammetry – part 2

20th March. By tobiasniva. Posted in Blog.

More experimenting with photogrammetry. Went out in the woods, took some photos; one set of an old tree stump and another of a rock. Brought them into Meshroom (separately) and generated some highpoly meshes, and with them their textures. Imported these highres-models into Blender where I decimated them quite aggressively, down to lowpoly-versions. Unwrapped the …read more

Photogrammetry

9th March. By tobiasniva. Posted in Blog.

Wanted to try out some photogrammetry; So when out walking the other day, I stopped by a small rock. Walked around it a lap or two, filming it with my smartphone. Back home I extraced images/frames from that video, brought them into Meshroom and let it do it’s magic. Imported the generated mesh into Blender, …read more

Spaceship concept

29th November. By tobiasniva. Posted in Blog, Misc.

Been working in Substance Painter the last couple of nights, on the latest spaceship concept. Not all done yet, some smaller details left still…

Mesh in parts

18th November. By tobiasniva. Posted in Blog.

I’m working on a spaceship in Blender, which I plan to texture in Substance Painter. In order to get cleaner texture bakes, I chose to split up the mesh in different parts. This will mostly help out the normal map bake, when in tight spaces where projection errors otherwise might occur.

UV-bonanza

13th November. By tobiasniva. Posted in Blog.

Took up an old project – a concept vehicle – from a while back. The aim is to import it into Substance Painter, to tinker a bit, learning the in’s and out’s of the application. Here you see some prepared uv’s for the model in question. Tried to keep the different islands as logically grouped …read more

Blender 2.8

23rd August. By tobiasniva. Posted in Blog.

A couple of nights ago I downloaded the experimental build of Blender 2.8. Mostly to have a look at the status of the new realtime renderer EEVEE, but also to check other stuff that lurks around the corner.

Lowpoly animation

4th August. By tobiasniva. Posted in Blog.

Working at UR resulted in a lot of rigging and animating lowpoly characters. Here are a couple of previews of sequences I made for some of the animals.

VR panoramas online

15th July. By tobiasniva. Posted in Blog.

I just discovered roundme.com – an online service where you can upload panoramas and create virtual tours easily. To try it out, I created a tour using some old panorama renders of my apartment, from an old 3DSMax-scene. We’ll see if I add some more stuff there later on. https://roundme.com/@tobiasniva

Money Monster

9th October. By tobiasniva. Posted in Blog, Misc.

Watched the movie Money Monster the other night: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2241351/ Got a hit of Blender-abstinence when I saw the show’s backdrop – Money Monster backdrop – and this was the result. Didn’t spend time to find the actual fonts…

Veil Painter

26th January. By tobiasniva. Posted in Blog.

Inspired by the old Flame Painter by Escape Motions, I wanted to try and see if I could make something similar. My take on it – Veil Painter. 🙂

To tag, or not to tag…

8th October. By tobiasniva. Posted in Blog.

…that’s the question. I added tags to my posts, to be able to somewhat sort them separate from the overall categories. I made this as a result wanting to link to more specific images when applying for certain jobs. Not sure if I’m keeping this though…

Game Of Life

Another late-night-tinkering resulted in this version of Conway´s Game Of Life. If you are on a device that supports flash you can test it here: GameOfLife_WEB.swf

Attractor – an app for making flames

23rd August. By tobiasniva. Posted in Blog.

Last couple of nights I tinkered with some flash and math…and ended up writing this application. It takes some parameters and plots a bunch of pixels to screen… If you are on a device that supports flash you can test it here: Attractor_WEB.swf NOTE! The web-version above does not support saving images or presets…so if …read more
